Everyone was taken by surprise when they revealed the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini Pro. This is because Mini Pro does not seem to be any different from the XPERIA X10 Mini. Let’s take a look at the features of the Mini and the Mini Pro and see if one is not just a replica of the other.

Similar Features

The Mini and Mini Pro are nearly identical with all their similar features. Both smartphones run the Android 1.6 operating system on a 600 MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor. The operating system of both phones is a shocker since most smartphones run newer versions of Android such as the Android 2.0. Nevertheless, Sony Ericsson ensures that buyers of the Mini and Mini Pro’s user interface are just as functionally rich as the newer Android operating systems.

Both phones also come with 3G HSDPA and HSUPA and WiFi that allow users to access and browse the internet, like any other smartphones. Both the Mini and Mini Pro cater to data transfer with Bluetooth and microUSB for connectivity, wireless and cabled.

The phones also come with a 2.55 inch TFT capacitive touch screen which provides users with fair image display. At the four corners of the Mini and Mini Pro’s touch screens are contextual controls. These controls can be customized by the user depending on their preference.

Sony Ericsson brags about these two phones, as both the Mini and Mini Pro have a number of special applications such as the Timescape and Mediascape. The Timescape is being advertised as a major feature of the phones.

It enables the users to have direct communication with all their contacts. They can access different social networking sites Facebook, Twitter, Bebo as well as messaging and all other means of communications in one place through the Timescape. The Mediascape is more on the multimedia side. This application allows users to access their videos, photos and music.

Even videos downloaded from YouTube and PlayNow can be archived in the phone. The contact information on the Timescape and the artist and track information on Mediascape can be accessed by a key button – the Infinity button.

How the Mini Pro is Different from the Mini

Probably the first thing that smartphone users will notice regarding the difference of the Mini Pro from the Mini is the launch colors. The Mini offers buyers more colors to choose from such black, lime, pink, red, silver and pearl white, while the Mini Pro comes only in the colors black and red. Also, the Mini is a purely touch screen gadget.

The text entry goes with the T9-style layout. The Mini Pro, on the other hand, comes with the QWERTY keyboard which is the keyboard layout used in English-based computers. This keyboard adds up to the weight and dimensions of the Mini Pro which makes it heavier and larger than the Mini.

Conclusion

Although, the Mini and Mini Pro are practically identical when it comes to feature, the Mini Pro may prove to be a better choice even if it’s heavier and larger than the Mini. This is because with the QWERTY keyboard typing in the Mini Pro is easier. Buyers may not mind the few millimeters and grams added to the Mini Pro.
